Atong Ang Faces Kidnapping, Homicide Charges in Missing Sabungeros Case
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has formally filed criminal charges against businessman Atong Ang and several co-accused in connection with the long-running case involving missing sabungeros.

According to reports, the DOJ submitted charge sheets for kidnapping with homicide and kidnapping and serious illegal detention before various Regional Trial Courts in Batangas and Laguna. The filings followed the DOJ panel of prosecutors’ earlier finding of sufficient evidence to pursue the cases.
DOJ officials explained that under criminal procedure, the courts will determine whether warrants of arrest should be issued based on the evidence presented. While there were earlier discussions about possibly moving the cases to Manila, no formal motion has been filed as of this writing.
The case stems from the disappearance of dozens of sabungeros over the past years, a matter that has drawn national attention. Whistleblower testimony previously named Ang and other individuals as alleged masterminds behind the disappearances. These allegations, however, remain contested.
Ang has consistently denied the accusations and has filed counter-cases against his accusers. Actress Gretchen Barretto, who was also mentioned in earlier claims, has denied involvement, with the DOJ dismissing complaints against her due to insufficient evidence.
Malacañang has earlier assured the public that the government remains committed to resolving the case, emphasizing that the legal process must be allowed to proceed without interference.
As the case moves forward, all parties involved continue to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
