Deuteronomy 5:1 (KJV) Why God Repeated the Ten Commandments
Why God Repeated the Ten Commandments
(Deuteronomy 5 Study)
“And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day…”
Deuteronomy 5:1 (KJV)
================================
When we reach Deuteronomy chapter five, something familiar happens.
The Ten Commandments are repeated.
But here’s the question:
Why repeat something so important?
Didn’t Israel already hear this at Mount Sinai?
Yes.
But this is a different moment…
And a different generation.
The people standing before Moses now were not the same ones who first heard God’s voice from the mountain.
Many of them were children back then.
Some were not even born yet.
And this reveals a powerful truth.
God repeats what matters most.
Not because He forgets—
But because people do.
Truth does not change.
But people need to be reminded.
Again.
And again.
And again.
Because repetition is how truth moves from hearing → understanding → living.
Moses was not just reviewing history.
He was preparing a generation.
Before they entered the Promised Land, they needed to understand:
Who God is.
What He commands.
How they should live.
Because success without foundation leads to failure.
And foundation comes through repeated truth.
This applies directly to our lives today.
We often look for something new.
New revelation.
New ideas.
New direction.
But God often brings us back to the same truths.
Why?
Because growth is not always about learning something new.
Sometimes it’s about remembering what we already know.
To love God.
To live right.
To walk in obedience.
To stay faithful.
These are not new messages.
But they are necessary ones.
Because life has a way of distracting us.
Pulling us away.
Making us forget what matters most.
And that’s why God repeats.
Not to limit you—
But to ground you.
Because when truth is repeated…
It becomes part of who you are.
Step by Step: Growing Through Repetition
Listen again
Hearing truth repeatedly builds understanding.
Reflect deeply
Think about what God is teaching you.
Apply consistently
Truth becomes real when practiced.
Stay grounded
Repetition keeps your foundation strong.
Value the basics
Simple truths carry lifelong power.
Repetition is not repetition—
It is reinforcement.
PRAYER
Lord, help me value the truth You continue to teach me.
Give me a heart that listens, remembers, and applies Your word.
Teach me to grow in understanding through repetition.
Let Your truth become part of my daily life.
Amen.
