DILG: Accidental Firing Cited in Death of Iloilo Town Vice Mayor
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (Department of the Interior and Local Government) said the death of Dueñas, Iloilo Vice Mayor Aimee Paz Lamsan was caused by accidental firing, following an initial investigation and crime scene reenactment.
DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said findings indicate that the firearm involved was “very light-triggered” and was discharged after being handled improperly. The bullet entered the victim’s abdomen, resulting in fatal injuries.

Authorities said the vice mayor was a gun enthusiast with multiple registered firearms. Investigators cited physical evidence, witness testimonies, and ballistic assessments as bases for the conclusion. Officials also ruled out suicide, noting the victim’s positive disposition and future plans.
While accidental firing has been identified as the primary cause, the investigation remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to examine other aspects of the case to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Cases involving firearms often test the balance between technical findings and public perception. In such moments, clarity matters — not just in conclusions, but in how carefully they are reached.
Process, after all, is not about speed.
It is about precision.
