Celtics End Detroit’s 13-Game Winning Streak in Intense 117–114 Finish
Detroit’s incredible 13-game surge finally came to an end as the Boston Celtics escaped with a 117–114 victory, thanks to a dramatic finish and a missed free throw that proved costly for the Pistons.

Jaylen Brown powered Boston with 33 points and 10 rebounds, while Derrick White added 27 — including several clutch buckets late. The win improves Boston to 10–8 in NBA Cup play.

For Detroit, Cade Cunningham once again carried the load, dropping 42 points — but the potential game-tying free throw in the final seconds rimmed out. That single miss became the turning point that snapped Detroit’s longest win streak since their legendary 1989–2004 runs.
The Pistons came into the night riding massive momentum, fueled by elite defense, late-game execution, and a consistent uptick in scoring. But Boston, needing the win to stay alive in group play, matched Detroit’s energy possession after possession.
With the loss, the Pistons fall to 15–3 and slide back in the race for the NBA Cup brackets.
Toronto clinched East Group A earlier in the day, while the Lakers won West Group B. The Thunder remain perfect at 3–0 as they push to lock down their spot next.
Detroit will try to start a new streak when they host Indiana, while Miami looks to extend its momentum against Milwaukee.
One thing is clear:
The Celtics had to fight for this one — and Detroit didn’t give it away easily.
