Kapunan Proposes Alternative Examination of Receipts

Private prosecutor Atty. Lorna Kapunan proposed a revised procedure for examining 845 acknowledgement receipts during the ongoing impeachment proceedings involving Vice President Sara Duterte.

According to Kapunan, the lengthy examination of the receipts could have been avoided if the defense had stipulated or admitted the authenticity of the documents during the pre-trial stage.

Her remarks came as the Senate prepared to adjourn, raising concerns about whether there would be enough time to complete the examination inside the session hall.

Initial Motion and Defense Objection

Earlier in the proceedings, Kapunan moved that the examination of the acknowledgement receipts be conducted outside the courtroom because of time constraints.

However, the defense panel objected to the proposal.

Following the objection, Kapunan informed the impeachment court that she wished to amend her earlier motion.

New Proposal Before the Impeachment Court

Instead of conducting the examination outside the courtroom, Kapunan proposed that the 845 acknowledgement receipts be examined before the Clerk of Court.
